For store and area managers
You were promoted because you were good at the job. Nobody sat you down and explained the business.
If you're running a store or a group of stores and you've ever had the feeling that everyone around you seems to understand something you weren't told, I'd like you to know that's extremely common, and it isn't a reflection of you.
A lot of us got here the same way. You were good on the floor, you got promoted, and somewhere along the line you were handed a P&L, a set of targets and a team, and the assumption was that you'd work the rest out. Plenty of people do work it out eventually, but it takes years, and in the meantime you're making decisions without really knowing why they're the right ones, which is exhausting.
I spent a long time in exactly that position, and I got out of it the slow way. What I do now is help other people get out of it faster.
The commercial gap
What it's actually costing you
The part nobody says out loud is that this doesn't only make the job harder. It caps how far you go in it.
What got you into store management, being excellent with customers, with product and with people, is not what gets you past it. At some point the conversations stop being about the floor and start being about the numbers underneath it, and if you can't hold your own in those conversations, a few things happen. Head office calls feel awkward, because you're being asked about things in a language you were never taught. Your proposals don't land, because you're arguing from instinct rather than from a business case. And when a regional or area role comes up, the person who gets it is often the one who can explain their store commercially, not necessarily the one running the better store.
That's the gap, and it's closeable. It doesn't take a degree and it isn't complicated once someone shows you how the pieces fit together. It just requires somebody to actually sit down and do it with you, which is what this is.
No-cost support
Ask me anything about your stores
Before anything else, this is free and it always will be.
If you've got a question about your store, your team, your numbers, something you're stuck on or something head office has asked for that you're not sure how to deliver, send it to me. I'll answer it properly. If it's a question a lot of people have, I may write it up more fully, but never with your name or your business attached.
I'd rather you got a useful answer than nothing at all, and I'd rather you knew what talking to me is like before you consider paying for it.
One to one
Coaching
One to one, for store managers, area managers and anyone heading in that direction.
This isn't generic leadership coaching. We work on what's actually in front of you: your P&L and which lines you genuinely move, the specific problems in your team, the conversation you're dreading, the promotion you want, the situation with your regional manager, the numbers you're being held to that nobody has properly explained.
I've done the job, recently, at scale, so you won't have to explain the context to me first.
A first conversation is free and there's nothing attached to it, so we can both work out whether this is worth your money.
After that, a single session is €80, or €210 for three, used whenever suits you rather than on a fixed schedule. Between sessions you can message me and I'll answer.
On the floor
Lessons
I'm building a series on YouTube covering the parts of the job nobody formally teaches you, starting with how a retail P&L actually works.
How a store P&L is built and which lines you genuinely control. What payroll to sales really means and how to schedule against traffic rather than against opening hours. Where margin leaks in a store and how to trace it. How to read sell-through and act on it in time. How to talk to head office in a way that gets you what you need.
Free, and built to be used the same week you watch it.
